West Ham’s treatment of Tony Carr is disgraceful

http://readwestham.com/2016/07/27/west-hams-treatment-of-tony-carr-is-disgraceful/

C&P from above, this section;

"...Carr has been relieved of his duties. There wasn’t any announcement by the club, he was just slipped out the back door along with a huge number of workers from the Boleyn Ground who were made redundant following the stadium move."

The omens don't look good for the start of this season, with events unfolding like this behind the scenes...

Re: Tony Carr being made redundant
The man was 66, retirment age passed? WHU basically got shot of him when he was replaced by Westley.
They could have let him go then, as he basically “wasn’t doing what was in the requirements of his job” i.e not producing players for the 1st team, but the club treated him with utmost respect and put him on 2k a week, free boxes at games, free food, shaking people’s hand as ambassador, not bad work if you can get it, they even threw him testimonial game, in which he pocketed over 200 bags!
Now he’s throwing a wobbly and going to the press, he’s not being fair in my eyes, the club treated him very well, he even turned down a part time roll as ambassador, who of us would do that now? Let alone when we’re 66 years old, he’s not club royalty now is he?
This is a club (albeit new owners) who got a steward to tell Bobby Moore to leave a game at Upton Park, because he didn’t have a ticket ! Come on, that was bang out of order, and we definitely let Bobby down then, but these owners have tried righting previous wrongs, like bringing Bonzo back.

We looked after him, since he injured himself and gave up playing, since 1973..youth team coach yes..Moore, Bonds or Brooking he wasn't, or he'd have got life time ambassadors role.

you can't make a person redundant, only a job.

therefore anything he did for work, can never be done again.

Re: Tony Carr being made redundant
Wally St. Pier discovered, arguably, more important players for West Ham, many becoming huge legends in the game. I also attended his testimonial in 1975, after which he retired from the club. I suspect that he probably didn't receive the same sort of comparable sums that TC received:

'St Pier arrived at West Ham United from Ilford in April 1929 making his senior debut in October 1929 against Leicester City. Spending most of his time as understudy to Jim Barrett, St Pier managed only 24 appearances for The Hammers before retiring from playing in 1932.[1] St Pier was appointed club chief scout by manager Charlie Paynter and was responsible for the discovery of John Lyall,[2] Bobby Moore,[3] Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters,[4] Pat Holland,[5] Frank Lampard, Paul Brush and Alan Curbishley,[6] amongst others, through his scouting network. Given a testimonial in May 1975, he retired in 1976 after 47 years service to West Ham.'

Pound to a penny the bitch has barely spoke to Tony Carr since she's been here.
He represents the old WHU..people like most of us..working class roots..people she despises.

It was with me North, but then that was then and was their perogative - dreadfully handled I will add, fucking abysmal

No doubt in my mind that is a serious contributor to Tony now having his day in the sun with the press

All of which is needless bollocks and at the risk of repeating myself, what kind of organisation with upwardly mobile pretention conducts its PR through a kid on Twitter or through his selected mates websites?

Anyway I am boring myself now so God help you blokes, I am out

It was Bank. Lots of people questioned moving Carr out of the way for husband of Brady's PA/friend Westley.

It's easier to pretend we didn't though.

I'm not comfortable with the way this has been handled but Tony Carr was relieved of his duties two years ago, so why wasn't this an issue with the media and some of you back then?

Re: Tony Carr being made redundant
Disgraceful, but it's no surprise by this mob in charge. As they say history starts in however many days it is.

Yet they don't mind going back in real history to make a pound note using the Bobby Moore name. To treat Carr the way they have is bollocks. Tony Carr as a place in our clubs history, unlike the board.

West Ham captain Mark Noble 'shocked' after Tony Carr is offered redundancy package by the Hammers

West Ham captain Mark Noble has expressed his shock at the departure of the Hammers' former academy director Tony Carr.

Carr, 65 was instrumental in the production of a long line of England internationals at the east London club, including the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Glen Johnson, Jermain Defoe, Joe Cole and Michael Carrick.

But, after 43 years of service, Carr has left his role as a club ambassador after being told the position was no longer full time.

Carr has labelled the minimum statutory redundancy payment of £14,000 offered to him as "paltry" while West Ham fans spelled out their anger online.

The club have now confirmed Carr has left his position with immediate effect after his two-year contract came to an end and Noble, who worked with Carr throughout his career, has praised the impact he had.

"I first saw it in the papers," he told the Daily Mail. "It was a shock to me.

“I don’t know what’s gone on in the background, I’ve been in Austria for two weeks solid [on a training camp], but what I can say is I know Tony very well.

"He’s a fantastic man, a great servant to the club. As we all know, the players he’s brought through in the last 20, 25 years have been phenomenal.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to Tony and seeing how he is. I don’t know what’s gone on between him and the club.

"My own personal experiences with Tony have been fantastic. He helped me become the player I am today," insisted Noble.

Re: Tony Carr being made redundant
Do people seriously think that this storm in a tea cup will impact possible investment in the club?

Just as well we weren't sued for illegally playing a player we didn't own or sued by an outgoing manager for breach of contract or have our name dragged through the press for receiving illegal state aid cos otherwise we'd be right royally fucked on the sponsorship front!

Re: Tony Carr being made redundant
"So, Mr Wong, are you ready to invest the £2billion into the club?"

"Are you joking? I was about to sign on the dotted line, but when I heard that the youth coach was let go, the man who you wanted out 2 years ago but rather than just sack him then, gave him a 2 year winding down period, paid him handsomely, gave hom a testimonial.. Bit then had the cheek to let someone you employ to do this kind of thing tell him his services were no longer needed? You think I'm partng with my money now?"

"Yeah"

"ok, where do I sign?"
